Google offers alternative to WIMAX

February 2010. Google is planning to launch an experiment that we hope will make internet access safer, better, and faster for everyone. They plan to test ultra-high speed broadband networks in one or more trial locations across the country. Their networks will deliver Internet speeds more than 100 times faster than what most Americans have access to today, over 1 gigabit per second, fiber-to-the-home connections. They’ll offer service at a competitive price to at least 50,000 and potentially up to 500,000 people.

From now until March 26th, they are asking interested municipalities to provide them with information about their communities through a Request for information (RFI), which they will use to determine where to build their network.

If you are a school IT administrator or community and are thinking of going WIFI – think again – Fibre Optics are the best way to go. Do it once and do it right and perhaps Google can give you a helping hand. Click here to learn more.
